Builder in Mansfield
Mansfield is a regular part of our week, close enough to Nottingham that we don't add a premium for travel. Kitchen renovations and general refurbishment work make up most of what we do here, particularly around the older streets near the town centre and out towards Forest Town and Berry Hill, alongside the occasional extension where a plot allows for it.

Services available in Mansfield
Kitchen renovations involving a wall removal are the job we're asked for most often in Mansfield, closely followed by general refurbishment on older ex-colliery housing that's had little structural work done since it was originally built. We also do a fair amount of rewiring as part of these renovations, since kitchens in these properties were never designed around the number of appliances a modern household runs. Extensions are less common here than in Nottingham simply because plot sizes in the older terraced streets don't always allow for it, though where gardens are bigger, out towards Forest Town, we do take on single-storey rear extensions too. Bathroom renovations come up regularly as well, usually alongside a kitchen job rather than as a standalone project, since a lot of these properties are having several rooms brought up to a similar standard at once rather than one at a time.

Local to Mansfield
Much of Mansfield's housing was built for the mining industry that once employed most of the town, which means a lot of ex-colliery terraces and semis around areas like Ladybrook and Ravensdale, with smaller original kitchens and box rooms than modern buyers expect. Further out towards Berry Hill and Forest Town, you get more 1950s and 60s semis, built to a slightly more generous footprint but often with kitchens still tucked into the original small rear extension rather than opened up to the rest of the ground floor. Knocking through to create an open-plan kitchen-diner is one of the most common jobs we take on across both types of property, and it usually means dealing with a chimney breast or a supporting wall that wasn't designed with that layout in mind when the house was built.
Common builder problems in Mansfield
Older Mansfield terraces often have solid, uneven concrete floors and load-bearing chimney breasts that complicate any open-plan kitchen plan, meaning the cost of a steel beam or RSJ needs factoring in from the start rather than as a surprise once we've opened the wall up. Wiring and plumbing in these properties predates modern kitchen appliance loads by decades in some cases, so we factor a full rewire of the kitchen circuit into most renovation quotes here rather than assuming the existing wiring will cope with a double oven and an induction hob on the same circuit. Damp is also more common in the older ex-colliery terraces than in the newer semis further out, usually from solid walls with no cavity, which we check for before finalising any kitchen or general refurbishment quote. In the 1950s and 60s semis around Berry Hill, the more common issue is a small, dated rear extension that was added decades ago to a lower building standard than the rest of the house, which often needs partially rebuilding rather than simply refitting when we open a kitchen up into it.
